Will Apple kill the MP3? DON’T BE SUPID …

Anyone who says Apple will be killing the MP3 needs a wake up slap. Apple is announcing (not implementing) a new feature for iTunes. I’ve been reading some stuff on the internet and it seems that many people seem to believe its a music streaming service aimed at killing spotify…

The good about streaming.

The main good thing about streaming is that you don’t have to worry about your hard drive space, or the file type. You can just choose a song and there you go…

The bad about streaming

Streaming requires internet access so if Apple were to kill the MP3 it would be a stupid move. What if your internet connection goes down? What if Apples servers for streaming go down? What if you don’t have 3G? What if you don’t have access to a wifi hotspot when on the go? All lead to one answer … no music.

The MP3 will always have a place, sure it can eat up hard drive space, but at the end of the day you don’t need an internet connection so you can keep listening to your music all day. Streaming is a great option if you have an internet connection but I would have an MP3 collection at the ready just in case I did not have internet access.
