If you like watching TV and want to watch it on the move, then TV catch up is what you need.
Creating an account
First of all you need to create an account. First of all go to Tv Catchup iPhone and click on the “Signup” link at the top of the page.
You should be presented with a page like this, all you need to do is enter an email address and password and your good to go. Once you have singed up you can go back to the link I mentioned earlier to access TV catch up.
Watching a channel
Please be aware that not all channels are availble for the iPhone version yet, however there are still some great channels to check out. All you have to do is press on one of the channels to start watching the channel.
Think of this screen as a TV remote.
Here is channel 5 running on the iPod touch, I should mention that the screen can be rotated so that the video fills up most of the screen.
As you might be able to tell, this service uses channels that stream in the QuickTime format that are available on freeview. As far as the quality goes, it is actually pretty decent although at times there can be pixilation on the screen but it only lasts for about half a second or so. Yes you can also pause the stream and it works properly as it doesn’t jump straight to where the broadcast should be it starts from where you paused it.
Saving the link to the home screen.
On the iPhone and iPod touch you can actually put bookmarks on the home screen for quick and easy access. I have done it with my iPod touch.
To do this, while on the channel selector screen on TV catch up, at the bottom of the screen there is a little “+” icon press that and then press “Add to home screen” and the bookmark should be added to the home screen.
Personally it would be nice to see this as an actual application instead of using safari all the time. You will also need a good connection other wise you are going to have trouble.
- Easy to sign up.
- Good quality stream
- Supports rotation
- Free of charge
- Needs to have more channels
- Should become an official application
- Lack of support for slower connections
